Prison Notebooks essential

29 notebooks written in prison, never published or revised by him: notes, first drafts and recopied versions. Published after Gramsci's death, first by theme (Platone and Togliatti, 1948-1951), then in order of writing by Valentino Gerratana (1975). We quote the Gerratana edition ("Q 12, §1" = notebook 12, note 1), from an unofficial transcription: we have not proofread it. The French extracts (Éditions sociales) are thematic selections, used only when they carry the same reference.
