Meditations essential

Personal notes in Greek, written for himself alone, never meant for publication. The Greek title, "To himself", comes from the manuscripts, not from him; the titles "Thoughts" or "Meditations" are modern. The text was first printed only in 1559 (Zurich, Xylander's edition), from a manuscript now lost. The chapter numbering is modern and varies between editions: we follow Long and Barthélemy-Saint-Hilaire.

Correspondence with Fronto

Letters in Latin exchanged with his teacher of rhetoric. Rediscovered in 1815 under another text (a palimpsest), incomplete. Not yet in our corpus.
